Do We Have Will Power?
Will power (or lack of…)
I don’t know how you are with will power, but I don’t think I have very much. So I try to find other ways of helping myself.
In or Out
If someone offers me a plate of biscuits, I am likely to eat some. But I don’t stock my cupboards with them. Because I know I can get through a packet quite easily with a nice cup of tea 😉 Therefore I use shopping as my ‘passport control’. Food that is not good for me does not pass through. If something does make it through (via another means, say as a gift) then will power is hard to come by. At home my guard is down. I am relaxed, get hungry, and reach for whatever is there. Personally I have will power and clarity when food shopping. I go with a list, a purpose and rarely deviate from it. I don’t browse the isles (where all those 2 for 1 offers lurk)
Kicking the Coffee Habit
I loved coffee. I used to drink it everyday. But I had to stop drinking it because my body doesn’t love it like I do. After a week of just one coffee a day, a pounding headache appeared to completely ruin my day. So I decided to cut it out properly.
It was very hard to cut it out when it was in my home, and in my view. I had to clear the coffee culprit out of my reach, so off it went to the top of the cupboard. Then, when I went on autopilot to make a coffee, it wasn’t visible, so I’d remember that I was choosing not to drink it. That reminder also set me up for the day. When I was out and found myself in a cafe I started remembering to order an alternative. Eventually the habit vanished for good.
It worked well, and I will be implementing this practice into other areas of life that could do with my love.
Do you have any habits you want to kick? Or positive habits you want to implement?
