The Myth of Talent
It is said so often and by so many people that it is really easy to believe that it’s true. That talent exists. But I disagree. I believe the story behind every ‘talented’ person is that they have worked hard to gain their skill. That it took so much dedication, commitment and love for the work that the skill became easy, as anything will with much focused repetition.
But often we come along with fresh eyes, no knowledge of how many hours of practice they have put in, and say ‘wow what a talent!’ This idea also fits perfectly with the thought ‘I could never do that! I am not as talented as them’. But I think we are, if we want to be.
However, it has to be really desired. That’s when we humans achieve truly wonderful things, when we are really in love with the doing.
Talent vs Skill
What I would love, is for us all to be saying ‘blimey aren’t they skilled. They must have worked so hard to get that good!’ Then we begin to really appreciate the person for who they are and what they have achieved.
The question now is, what will we achieve?
Go work at it.
See you on the other side 😉
